He was predeceased by: his parents, Helmut Schmidt and Mathilde Helmreich Schmidt; and his brother Edmund Schmidt. He is survived by: his girlfriend Heather McKinney; his siblings, Karl (Sharron), Robert (Terri), Monika Hickey, Herbert, Reinhard, Brigitte Christine (James), Rosemarie, Richard Schmidt (Brenda) and Kristine Hays (Timothy); his close friend Paula Koefoed; and his pet Bella. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
