He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony Risse and Caroline Ellen Harrison Risse; and his brother Joseph Risse. He is survived by: his wife Bertha E. Risse of Springfield; his children, John D. Risse, Jr. (Molly) of Lincoln, Thomas A. Risse of Springfield, Michael A. Risse (Evelyn) of Springfield, Katherine M. Risse of Springfield and Christine A. Risse of Springfield; his grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth, Larissa, Monica and Jacki; and his great grandchildren, Joel, Jude, Jayden, Bella, Owen and Scarlett.
