With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Clifton R. Howell of Sparta, Illinois, born in Carbondale, Illinois, who passed away on August 15, 2023 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford D. Howell and Evelyn R. Mowery; and his stepfather Francis H. Holland. He is survived by: his children, David A. Howell (Cyndi) of Coulterville, IL, Michael R. Howell (Nancy) of Sparta, IL and Kimberly A. Howell of Sparta, IL; his grandchildren, Angela Wright (Jason) of Coulterville, IL, Heather Steele (Randy) of Coulterville, IL, Adam Howell (Amy) of Coulterville, IL, Emily Johnson (Josh) of Aviston, IL and Molly Thompson (Tyler) of Freeburg, IL; his great grandchildren, Analiese Howell, Ace Howell, Kynlee Wright, Jaycee Wright, Jaxson Steele, Raylend Steele, Sammy Johnson, Lucas Johnson and Zoey Thompson; his brother Richard D. Howell of Cobden, IL; and his close friends, Mary Lou Schmulbach and Travis Aaron. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
