It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Cornelius J. Venhuizen of South Holland, Illinois, who passed away on February 23, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Berend Venhuizen and Martje Venhuizen; his siblings, Johanna Folgers (Hendrik), Cornelia Eekhof (Jakob) and Trijntje Ritsema (Geert); and his grandchildren, Albert Martin and Thomas Venhuizen.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne Venhuizen; his children, Bernard Venhuizen (Rosalinda), Ruth Martin (William) and Gayle Beezhold (Dave); his grandchildren, Cornelius Venhuizen (Lisa Brown), Alison Carlassare (Matthew), Melissa Martin, Joshua Martin (Christina), Zachary Beezhold and Jason Beezhold (Rachel); and his great grandchildren, Annabelle Carlassare, Eloise Martin, Mason Carlassare, John Venhuizen and Harrison Martin. He is also survived by his wife's paintings, gardening with relatives.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Smits Funeral Home (2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN 46311). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 2nd 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A committal service will be held on Monday, March 3rd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery (20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421). A burial will be held on Monday, March 3rd 2025 at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421).
