She was predeceased by: her parents, Axel "Swede" Nelson and Emma Nelson (Heminover); her husband Donald LaVerne Gates Sr.; her children, Debra Roberts, Kathryn, Michael and Jon; her daughter-in-law Eileen; and her siblings, Marie, Rick, David and Chuck.
She is survived by: her son Donald Gates Jr.; her grandchildren, Dawn (Don), Shawn, Lisa (Miguel), Steve (Jen), Okema (Joshua), Nicole and Crystal (Justin); her sister Rita Alsip of Minooka; and her siblings-in-law, Kay, Terri Nelson of Leland and Herman Johnson of Ekron, Kentucky. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
