He was predeceased by: his father Earl (Leona); his parents-in-law, Chappy and Maggie Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Amlung, Michael Smith, Timothy Smith and Barbara Turbiville (Jim).

He is survived by: his wife Deborah; his children, Gregory Billhartz (Jennifer) and Rachel Peters (Shannon); his grandchildren, Grace, Evan, Liam Billhartz, Sela and Myra Peters; his siblings, Larry Billhartz (Julie), Patrick Billhartz and Diane Phelps (Charles); and his siblings-in-law, Carol Hooten (Joe), Mark Smith (Tina) and Dan Smith (Paula). He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving friends.

Memorials may be made to St. George Catholic Church, New Baden, IL, or to the Arch City Kids Theater Troupe.
