He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ruth; his children, Joseph Chavkin Spero (Sara), Peter Allen Spero (Sally Newman) and Bessie Spero Li (Ruoxin); his grandchildren, Greg, Katie, Joey, Hannah, Mark, Jessica and Miriam; his sister Ann Spero Schwimmer; and his nieces and nephews, Carol Stradley, Lisa Marier, Rusty Schwimmer and Jenny Simpson.
