He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Ernst and Shirley Ernst (Barlow); and his siblings, Marsha, Judy and John.

He is survived by: his wife Belinda of Shumway; his daughters, Laura Storey (Steven) of Bethalto, Jennifer Harmon (Doug) of Trivoli, Beckie Ernst of Knoxville, Jamie Ernst of Farmington, Tawnia Monnet (Nathan) of Heartville, Heather Brown of Altamont and Faith Evans (Greg) of Vandalia; and his siblings, Eva and Don. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
