He was predeceased by: his mother Lorraine Crowther (Haitz); and his grandson Luke Anthony Bannon. He is survived by: his wife Joann "Joanie" Crowther (Martin); his children, Debra Bannon (Tom) and Richard Crowther, Jr. (Audra); his grandchildren, Stephanie Matesi (Jeff), Kylie Filotto (Kevin), Rylan Bannon (Madison), Kaityn Wagner (Ryan), Jacob Crowther and Justin Crowther; his great grandchildren, Quinn Matesi, Weston Wagner and Montana Bannon; his siblings, Gordon Crowther (Diane) and Joyce Ardern (Richard); and his pet Spencer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Lightways Hospice or Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital.
