He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Goldie Bell Burks (Hoobery); his stepson Andrew Black; and his siblings, Everett Burks, Chester Burks (Deloris), Vivian Burks, Wanda Spicer (Earl) and Donna Evans (Richard).
He is survived by: his wife Judy Burks (Ritter) of Shobonier; his children, Jim Burks (Jodi) of Vernon, Tammy Watkins (Roger) of Saybrook and John Burks (Stephanie) of Vernon; his stepson Matthew Black (Karen) of Vandalia; his sisters, Vera Ray (David) of Vandalia and Wilma McElroy (Jim) of Effingham; and his grandchildren, Telisa Simpsen, Stephanie Pickett, Justin Watkins, Tiffany Cathey, Genny Burks, Angie Burks, Kirsten Kershaw, John Burks, Kody Burks, Tresa Elgin, Ryan Black, Brady Black, Marley Black, Sierra Sanders and Rylee Doza. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Ltd. (204 N 4th St, Vandalia, IL 62471).
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
