He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert B. Paul and Emma Paul (Voumard); his former wife Pearl E. Bailey; his son Robert E. "Bob" Paul; his wife Marcella J. Bierbaum (Mason); his siblings, Erma Bernhard, Harold and Maurice Paul; and his stepsons, Glen Wayne, David and Donnie Bierbaum.
He is survived by: his children, Gerald W. Paul (Joy), Steven K. Paul (Bette), Mark E. Paul (Judy) and Karen E. Hickerson (David); his sister Lois Bailey of Oak Ridge, TN; his stepdaughter-in-law Rosalie Bierbaum; his stepgrandson Greg; and his close friend Lonnie Saffell. He is also survived by four children, he is survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
