He was predeceased by : his parents, Allen J. Gardiner and Mabel M. Gardiner (Close); his sister Sharon Mitts; his grandson Raymond Gardiner; and his daughter-in-law Vickie J. Gardiner.

He is survived by : his wife Donna L. Gardiner of Sherman; his children, Kathryn Rafferty (Dan) of LaVergne, TN, Kathleen Ervin (Dan) of Sherman and Robert Joseph Gardiner (Kelly) of Sherman; and his cousins, Dawn, Dwayne and Greg Blisset. He is also survived by six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 17th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Butler Funeral Home – Springfield (900 S 6th St, Springfield, IL 62703). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
