He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Robert and Lillian Hjertstedt (Wolf); his wife Grace Hamrick; and his brothers, Harold Robert Hursted and Allen Iriving Hjertstedt.

He is survived by: his children, Martha Bowyer of Princeton, IL, Ruth Draper (Jim) of Sheffield, IL, Jane Yarrington (Roy) of Princeton and Bill Hjertstedt (Angelika Thompson) of Princeton; his grandchildren, Tiffany Bowyer of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Keli Pinter (Jensen) of Princeton, Megan Brown (Dustin) of Princeton, Nicole Yarrington of Princeton, Kesielyn Hjertstedt of Princeton and Koel Hjertstedt of Princeton; and his stepgrandchildren, Troy Romagnoli (Gina) of Princeton, Todd Romagnoli (Michelle) of Palm City, FL, Tami Johns (Tom) of Waukesha, WI and Tiah Wingate (Danny) of Creston, OH. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
