He was predeceased by: his parents, Lormor J. Merkel and JoAnn Merkel (Matthews); and his children, Robert "Rob" Merkel and Katherine "Katie" Merkel. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Merkel of Sandwich, IL; his sons, Jason Merkel (Jodi) of Yorkville, IL, Daniel Merkel (Jung Mi Seo) of Aurora, IL and John K. Merkel of Yorkville, IL; his daughter-in-law Kelly Merkel of Oswego, IL; his grandchildren, Sarah Krouse (Jake), Megan Merkel, Kane Merkel, Kalifornia Merkel and Isabelle Jones; and his siblings, Jackie Merkel, Jean Johnson (Herman), Rick Merkel (Carol) and Dave Merkel (Gayle). He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home - Yorkville (1617 N Bridge St, Yorkville, IL 60560). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home (1617 N Bridge St, Yorkville, IL 60560).
