He is survived by: his parents, Walter W. Karstens and Jan Adams (Rogers); his stepfather Robert; and his siblings, Matthew, Robert, Patricia, Nancy, Melissa, Jennifer and Elizabeth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews.
