He was predeceased by: his parents, John Smith and Violet Smith (Gittelson); his wives, Fanne Burns and Glenna Knox; his daughter Tammy Baie; his siblings, LaVerne Smith and Donna Gifford; and his brother-in-law Art Gifford.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Smith of Montana, Sheri Norman (Steve) of Aurora and Karen Struewing (Ron) of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Christine Folkes (Allen), Vanessa Gupta (Mohit), Darren Baie, Steve Norman Jr. (America), Samantha Keen (Jeremy), Sarah Norman, Galen Norman (Suzanna) and Timothy Canedy; and his siblings, Lyle Smith (Marcia) of DeKalb, Richard Smith of Rochelle and Dorothy Smith of Rockford. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
