He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edward Merten and Olivia Merten (Mullenbach); his wife Catherine Van Esch (Katie); his sons, Greg of Charlotte, NC and Todd of Saint Augustine, FL; and his siblings, Beatrice Healy of St. Paul, MN, Gladys White of Austin, MN, Barbara Nalan of Grand Rapids, MN, Ronald Merten of Rose Creek, MN, Harold Merten of Albert Lea, MN and Donald Merten of Rose Creek, MN.
