She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Carey and Lenice Carey (Lippolt); her daughter Lisa; her grandson Scott Blankenship; and her siblings, Joanne Saffino, Helen Basting and Dale Carey.

She is survived by: her husband John Schmitz; her children, Karen Hoover (Steve), Gregory Schmitz (Bonnie), Rick Schmitz (JoAnne Spensley), Kim Soderberg (John), Stephen Schmitz (Sue) and Rodney Schmitz (Tracy Wallin); her grandchildren, Jonathan Hoover (Inese), Adam Hoover (Roxanne), Eric Hoover, Greg Schmitz, Jr., Chad Schmitz, Todd Schmitz (Stephanie), Kara Soderberg (Chris DePaepe), Marissa Holmstrom (Ben), Jessica Felhing (Rob), Jake Soderberg, Julie Blankenship, Jordyn Schmitz, Zachary Schmitz, Kitchrik and Keifer Schmitz; her sisters, Barb Hill, Judy Scullion (Ron), Ruth and Catherine Stauffacher (John); her son-in-law Brian Blankenship; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Carey, Marion Schmitz, Barb Schmitz and Helen Schmitz. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
