He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Merrick and Mary Ella Merrick (Burrow); and his siblings, Ruddy and Arleen Fox. He is survived by: his wife Lorena; his children, James D. Merrick of Rockford, Laura Clark of Rockford, Ramona Ullman of Muscatine, IA, Tayden Hartsfield (Angel), Ben Hartsfield (Kelly) and Jeremy Hartsfield; his granddaughters, Melissa Arnold (Brian) of Loves Park and Meagan Weber (Chris) of Fitchberg, WI; his great grandchild Samus Arnold; his stepgrandson Carter Hartsfield; his sisters, Donna Shutt of Irvine, CA and Barb McElligott of Surprise, AZ; and also, Karsyn, Khloe, Paige and Katelyn Hartsfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
