He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Holst and Mary Lou Holst (Winn); and his siblings, Robert, Clara, Carol Ann and Charlotte.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Holst (Wienecke); his children, Robert Holst (Karen) and Deborah Cuthbertson (Chuck); his siblings, Betty Horton (Duane), Hazel Ward (Jack) and Roy Schaberg; his friend Trooper; and his caregiver Amy. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel (1860 S Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61108). The military honors was held on Thursday, December 12th 2024 at 11:45 AM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory - Mulford (1860 S Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61108).
