He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Frank and Mary Catherine; and his wife Paula Elaine Jacobsen. He is survived by: his children, Joshua Ruefer of East Moline, Jacob Ruefer (Mareah) of Madison and Joella Koenig (Jon) of Rock Island; his grandchildren, Avery, Benjamin Ruefer, Joseph, John, Justin, Juliet and Jeremiah Koenig; and his siblings, Michael Ruefer (Paula) of Davenport, Cathy VanFossen (Jim) of Davenport, Susan Smith (Fred) of Peoria, Annette Nisley (Tim) of Hanceville, Nancy Ruefer of Davenport and Colleen "CoCo" Mansfield (Marty) of Colorado City, Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
