He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Ewald and Rosa Ewald (Hays); his wife Juanita Long; and his brothers, Harold, Howard and LeRoy.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Dahm (Jonathan) of Oregon, IL and Eric Ewald (Lynne) of Dixon, IL; his grandchildren, Adam Dahm (Jennifer), Laura Kittleson (Trevor), Aimee Nielsen (Landan), Stacey Dunphy (Brandon), Abbey Kelly (Joe) and Brent Ewald (Kim); his great grandchildren, Dakota, Brooks, Kate Kittleson, Arlo, Annie Nielsen, Avery, Jackson, Carter Kelly, Madison, Karley and Braxton Dunphy; and his sister-in-law Marjorie Ewald of Rochelle.
Visitation was held on Friday, December 13th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home (400 N 6th St, Rochelle, IL 61068). A masonic service was held on Friday, December 13th 2024 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Ashton United Methodist Church (906 Richardson Ave, Ashton, IL 61006).
Memorials may be made in Virgil's memory to Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard, the Ashton United Methodist Church or to Serenity Hospice and Home.
