He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey "Cecil" Erwin and Minnie "Gladys" Erwin (Chapman); his brother Tom (Gloria); his brother-in-law Jerry Scott; and his son-in-law Arnold Mariani.
He is survived by: his children, Sue Kapraun (Dave) of Spring Grove, IL, Scott Erwin (Vicki), Sarah Mariani and Steve Erwin (Donna) of Woodstock, IL; his granddaughter Laura Owen (Jason) of Peoria, AZ; his children, Abby Erwin (Dominic Nocerino), John Mariani (Jennah), Milwaukee and Nate Erwin (Keri Woltz) of Portland, OR; his great grandchildren, Quinn and Ella Mariani; his sister-in-law Birgit Scott; and his nephews, Hans-Erik Scott and Peter Scott (Kristen).
