He was predeceased by: his parents, George A. O'Brien and Pauline O'Brien (Stein); his brothers-in-law, Jim Walker, John Conevera and Larry Cross; and his grandson Brady Patrick O'Brien.
He is survived by: his spouse Marcia Lorraine Davidson; his sons, Shawn O'Brien (Kristen) of Hanford, CA, Daniel and Steven O'Brien (Amanda) of Ashton, IL; his siblings, John O'Brien (Ann) of Rochelle, Timothy O'Brien (Beverly) of Rochelle, Thomas O'Brien (Diana) of Winnebago, IL, William O'Brien (Carmen) of Marion, IA, Mark "Vince" O'Brien (Debbie) of Rochelle, Mary Walker of Holiday, FL, Kathleen Dailey (Mike) of Rochelle, Margaret O'Brien of Holiday, FL, Sharon O'Brien of Rockford, IL and Caroline Cappel (Jim) of Rochelle, IL; and his grandchildren, Siarah, Stone O'Brien, Logan and Leah O'Brien. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
