He was predeceased by: his parents, James Gildea and Beatrice Gildea (Walsh); his brother Thomas Gildea; and his stepdaughter Jennifer Reints. He is survived by: his wife Diane Gildea; his children, Susan Webb (Butch) of Rockford, IL, Leo A. Gildea of Sheridan, IL, Lisa Hardcastle (David) of Rochelle, Jenifer Askeland (David) of Rochelle and Cynthia Gildea of Rochelle; his stepson Christopher Sondgeroth (Kristine) of Rochelle; his grandchildren, Austin, Michael, Joshua, Emily, Bailey, Morgan, Zackery, Alexandra, Tyler, Faith and Noah; his sister Lois Weisse of Waterford, MI; and his nieces and nephews, Eileen, Michelle, Don and Frank. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 29th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home (400 N 6th St, Rochelle, IL 61068). A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, November 30th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church (236 Kelley Dr, Rochelle, IL 61068).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home or to an animal shelter of your choice.
