He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee A. Scherer and Ida Scherer (Beer); his sister Wilma Simpson (Scherer); his daughter-in-law Mary Lee Faupel; and his stepdaughter Carolyn Morgan (Scherer).
He is survived by: his children, David L. Scherer, Jean Hinrichsen (Ron), Mark Scherer (Tami), Kathryn Colter (Scherer) and Jonathan Scherer. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church or the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
