He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph George and Eugenia Mae Held (Gilpin); his wife Janet Irene Hough; and his siblings, Gloria Stockham and Gerald Held.

He is survived by: his children, Jodi Springer (Ed) of Tremont, IL, Justin Held of Morrisonville, IL and Damon Held (Lauren) of Auburn, IL; his grandchildren, Christian, Dylan, Reed and Adler; his great grandchild Braxtyn; and his brothers, Bill Held (Bev) of Raymond, IL and Donnie Held (Elaine) of Farmersville, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 9:30 AM and from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Raymond Catholic Church (406 Mc Elroy St, Raymond, IL 62560). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.

Memorials in Gary's honor may be made to either St. Raymond Catholic Church or to Raymond Ambulance Service.
