The memory of John Lee Gay of Quincy, Illinois, who passed away on April 10, 2025 at the age of 89, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Jr. Gay and Ella Stewart Gay; his son Kimber Gay; his grandchildren, Matthew and Symonne Haley; and his siblings, Charles Gay, Robert "Bobby" Gay Sr., Ron Gay Sr., Butch Gay, Rosemary Holder and Johnna Mae Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Harriett Thompson; his daughters, Eleanor "Trudy" Gay of Quincy, Juda Haley (Percival) of Kenosha, WI and Penny Trotter (Willie) of Springfield, IL.; his grandchildren, LaKendro Gay of Dallas, TX, Lucresia Beler of Springfield, IL, Keillyn Rogers of Moline, IL, Monica Gay of Arlington, TX, LaTrelle Beler of Birmingham, AL., Harrison Beler of Springfield, IL and Kendall Haley of Kenosha, WI; and his brothers, James Gay of Quincy, Richard Gay (Evelyn) of East Moline, IL, Billy Gay (Marla) of Quincy and Greg Gay (Ruby) of Quincy. He is also survived by great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home (1535 State St, Quincy, IL 62301). A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the same location.
