He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Haapasaari and Liisa Haapasaari; and his siblings, Onnie, George, Urho, Frank, Margaret Niemi (George) and Ellen Moldowan.
He is survived by: his wife Beatrice Saelens; his sister-in-law Sadie; his stepsons, Doug and Scott; and also, Eric, Kristin, Katie, Jonathan, Doug Johnson, Scott Johnson (Beth), Beth, Elaine Haines, Bob Haapasaari, Joan Nunamaker, Sandra Quinn, Patty Elstner and Susan Gruska. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
