He is survived by: his wife Karen Schmidt (Schleiter-Taylor) of Princeton, IL.; his siblings, Max Schmidt (Georgia) of Elma, IA, Mary Schmidt of Elma, IA, Rhonda Sands of Dallas, TX, Alice Schmidt of Waterloo, IA and Daryl Schmidt of Elma, IA.; his children, Bethany Stetson (Brian) of Chicago, IL, Benjamin Schmidt (Sheena) of Tiskilwa, IL, Brock Schmidt of Kenosha, WI, Blake Schmidt of Princeton, IL, Brenton Schmidt of Chicago, IL, Phillip Taylor of Reno, NV, Andrea Taylor of Abilene, TX and Stephen Taylor (Rosuara) of Minot, ND.; and his grandchildren, Jalynn, Paisley, Boon, Sierra, Sloane, Brielle, Dak and Shea.

“Karen & family, My heart is heavy. It’s hard to believe this incredible force of humanity is gone. It should not be this way. I am going to miss Mark. I will especially miss visits, waking up slightly after the crack of dawn to find him making breakfast. I’m going to miss the tours of his many projects incl. the tractors, the antique sleigh, tha antique light post, located poolside, etc. Most of all I will miss his intellect, charm & friendship.
