He was predeceased by: his parents, Ewald C. Goebel and Katherine Goebel (Pape); his brother Norman; his sister-in-law Dorothy Goebel; his sister Cornelia; and his brother-in-law Rodger Wittulski.
He is survived by: his wife Iona J. Mansholt; his sons, Michael (Sue) of Prairietown and Timothy (Michelle) of Prairietown; and his grandchildren, Justin Goebel (Jessi) of Hamel, IL, Jared Goebel (Ashley) of Edwardsville, IL, Jonathan Goebel (Kendall) of Champaign, IL, Lindsey Thornton (Tyler) of Holiday Shores, IL, Katie Knight (Shawn) of Oakdale, IL, Morgan Goebel and Rachel Goebel of Prairietown. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or the Prairietown Fire Department.
