He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Benson and Anne Gathercoal Sr. (Bezdek); his wife Karen Sue Hundrieser; his son Richard Gathercoal; his grandchildren, Samuel Ochoa Jr. and Brianne Karen Gathercoal; his daughter-in-law Donna Gathercoal; his brother Kenneth Gathercoal Jr.; and his sister-in-law Diane Gathercoal.
He is survived by: his children, James Gathercoal, David Gathercoal Jr., Susan Brockman (Bryan), Sharon Ochoa (Samuel) and Betty Gathercoal (Fernando Rueda); and his brothers, John "Jack" Gathercoal (Barb) and Robert "Bob" Gathercoal. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service (203 Logan Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008). A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church (402 Church St, Belvidere, IL 61008).
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
