He was predeceased by: his father Donald Eugene "Gene"; and his sister Pam Howland. He is survived by: his mother Shirley L. Powell Johns of Nebo; his wife Carolyn M. Johns of Pleasant Hill; his children, Donnie Gene Johns, III (Elisabeth) of Louisiana, MO, Andrea Howard (Aaron) of Elsberry, MO, Johnathan Johns (Christina) of Nebo and Faith Goewey (Braden) of Nebo; his grandchildren, Chloe, Addisyn, Hattie, Johnathan, Emilie, Malachi, Bridger, Mackenzie, Natalie and Charlee Jean; and his siblings, Eddie Johns of Pleasant Hill, Kevin Johns of Nebo and Becky Johns of Barry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
