He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara F. Schmalz; and his sister-in-law Fredericka "Fritzie" Finn. He is survived by: his children, Desiree Shurman of Green Valley, AZ and Wendell Schmalz (Teresa) of Plainfield, IL; and his grandchildren, Kayln Schmalz, Sarah Schmalz, Logan Schmalz and Ryan Schmalz.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Edward Catholic Church (4350 W Sunnyside Ave, Chicago, IL 60630).
