She was predeceased by : her parents, Everett Rice and Edna Rice (Gossman); her husband Dr. Clarence Eugene "Gene" Cawvey; her stepdaughter Janet Cawvey; her brother-in-law Frank Woosley; her aunt Dorothy Benedict (Herman); and her uncle Dick Hester.

She is survived by : her former life partner Dick Hester; her son Douglas Hester of Baton Rouge, LA; her stepchildren, Anne Cawvey West (Kevin) of Des Moines, IA, Jeannie Cawvey Brown of Charlottesville, VA and Bill Cawvey; her grandchildren, Genevieve Hester (Stacy Hackworth) and Logan Hester; her stepgrandchildren, Angela West, Mason Brown, Riley Brown, Alex Hay, Wyatt Stoneking and Polly Dyson (Jeff); her great grandchildren, Willow Hester, Gabe and Ava Hackworth; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Tiana and Noah Dyson; and her sister-in-law Susan Malan.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pinckneyville Public Library or Perry County Historical Society.
