He was predeceased by : his parents, Elmer Dempsay and Alpha Dempsay (Reidelberger); his brother Elmer D. Dempsay; his siblings-in-law, Mary Lou Dempsay, Virginia Dempsay and Bruce McLean; and his nieces and nephews, Maria Dempsay, Jeannie Byrd, Randy Dempsay and Alan Dempsay.

He is survived by : his wife Gladys Hubler; his children, Joni Leininger (Skip) of O'Fallon, IL, Clyde Jeffrey Dempsay (Jeri) of Anahuac, TX, Sherri Clark (Randal) of Pinckneyville, IL and Terri Kuhnert (Steve) of Pinckneyville, IL.; his siblings, Viva McLean of Centralia, IL, Asa D. Dempsay (Marcia) of Baxter, TN, Paul O. Dempsay (Pat) of Wilmington, IL, Ralph C. Dempsay (Diane) of Plano, IL and Doug R. Dempsay (Judy) of Sun City, AZ; and his grandchildren, Jana Kuhnert, Tara Carter (Mark), Jennifer Brady, Abigail Rose (Nathaniel), Chad Dempsay (Rima), Breana Acevedo (Simon), Dustin Kuhnert (Chelsea), Joshua Leininger (Melissa), Alissa Crews (James), Sarah Beth Smith (Alex), Chase Dempsay (Ashley), Allie Kuhnert and Taylor Kuhnert. He is also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Youth, The Gideons International or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
