She is survived by: her husband William Carter; her children, Robert Mason Coomer (April Brewer) and Carolyn Gerwen (Jason); her stepchildren, Chris Carter (Tracy), Becky Duncheon (Matt) and Jen Hollis; her grandchildren, Seth Carter, Hillary Nelson, Holly Fitzgerald, Maggie Carter, Melanie Duncheon, Kristin Reid, Zelma Coomer, Jake Hardy Gerwen and Piper Jo Gerwen; her great grandchildren, Jaxon Nelson, Mason Fitzgerald, Logan Fitzgerald and Madelyn Moore; her sister Doris Melvin; and her nieces, Julie and Pamela.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Heifer International, heifer.org or the Athens Municipal Library.
