He was predeceased by: his parents, Bishop Herschel and Bertha Gilbert (Cox); his son James "Jamie" Gilbert; and his siblings, Lester Gilbert, Dick, Bob, Jake, Tom Gilbert, Nelma Tatum, Anna Robinson, Emily Boughton and Aline Shotts.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Hunt; his daughter Pam Fisher (Mark); his daughter-in-law Dara Gilbert; his grandchildren, Joy Wilbur (Don), Misty Duncan (Trevor), Jenny Vyas (Bimal), Kristy Wilson (Gerald), Daniel Gilbert, Gina Foster (Drew), Robin Grohmann (Dan) and Curtis Fisher (Laura); and his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Sydney, Macie, Akhil, Raina, Charlotte, Enzi, Hollis, Scott, Ian, Sela, Flint, Ezekial, Willow and Zurianna.
