I respected him for his "old-school" ways of teaching and his conviction & personal style. He quietly accomplished much with his students (class research for a historical plaque placement, a student's winning entry in a cursive handwriting contest in 2021 when others were abandoning cursive, and mutual respect for others). “I was a colleague of Mike’s at District 289 in Mendota for many years as we both were fifth grade teachers. My nephew, now 26 years old, was in Mike‘s class at Northbrook School. After I relayed the news to him about Mike’s passing, his reaction was, “He was a great person and teacher”. I could not have summed up knowing Mike any better than that. Sincere condolences to Mike’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.”
