He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonce Schmitt and Clara Schmitt (Pflibsen); his children, Julie Ann Schmitt and Andrew Schmitt; his grandsons, Lucas and Kurt; and his siblings, Virl, Duane Schmitt, Gail Jaegle and Jane Lock.
He is survived by: his children, Timothy Schmitt of Oglesby, Joseph Schmitt (Erin) of Bloomington, Patrick Schmitt (Pandora) of Streator, Mary Baietto (Jim) of El Paso and Nicholas Schmitt (Vicki) of Bloomington; his grandchildren, Chelsea of Lauren, AJ, Jared, Alyson, Krysten, Jamey, Kalin and Haley; and his sister Joan Wiesbrock of Leonore. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
