He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Zack Erving and Sally James; his spouse Leverne Lobdell; and his children, Sammy Erving Jr. of Peoria, IL., Cornelius Ervin of Peoria, IL., Marguerite Gulley (Darwin), Linda Coatie, Regina Morgan (Derrick), Pamela Danage and Wanda Ervin-Lear. He was also cherished by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins.
