He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Pauline Newsam and Hierspiel; his siblings, Beverly Jane and Jan Thomas; and his niece Lori Ann.

He is survived by: his children, Steven Newsam (Sandy) of Atlanta, GA and Kathryn Newsam-Gullette (Charles) of Peoria; his grandsons, Ryant Lambie (Shelby), Cory Lambie, Caleb Newsam (Sydney) and Austin Newsam (Mari); his niece Janice Spain (David); and his nephew Michael Thomas Newsam (Tammy). He is also survived by nine great grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
