He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Carter and Fairy Carter (Walker); and his siblings, Clyde W. Carter (Ruth), Earl R. Carter (Gertrude), Charles Clinton Carter (Dariel), Lois Stubbs (Cecil) and Edith L. Welch (Dale).

He is survived by: his spouse Charlotte "Joan" Morgan; his son Diann J. Carey (Lester) of Sycamore, IL; and his grandchild Stephen L. Carter of Elmwood. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
