She was predeceased by: her parents, John Joseph and Betty Jane Green Violano; her sister Teresa Violano; and her stepsister Karen Keas Winemiller. She is survived by: her husband Kenneth A. Hofbauer; her sister Kathy Kauffman; her half-sister Laura Landis; her grandchildren, Julian, Catherine and Everett; and also Sarah DeShane (Aaron).
She served as a secretary for the Peoria ACLU Chapter and was a lifetime and after life member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
