He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Sell Kauffman and Emma Kauffman (Myers); and his siblings, Della Fee, Dorothy Kauffman, Helen Lorene Kauffman, Lee Kauffman, Joe Kauffman, Alvin Kauffman and Priscilla Kauffman.

He is survived by: his wife Dolly Hobbs August; his children, Candis McCarty of Paris and Troy Kauffman of Dennison; and his stepchildren, Donna Petty of Paris, Sandy Cunningham of Paris, Rose Sims of Marshall, David Cusick of Hopkinsville and Betty Griffin of Paris. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
