He was predeceased by: his stepfather Donald Barr; and his parent Lynnette Barr (David). He is survived by: his son Adam Shanks; his stepsisters, Patricia Gosnell of Paris, Karen Cash (Randy) of Pittsboro, Indiana and Gloria Barr of Paris; and his uncle David David of Sun City, Arizona. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
