He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Vickers and Georgia Vickers (Baker); and his wife Opal May West. He is survived by: his children, Bob Abernathy (Joyce) of Paris, Jerry Abernathy (Carol) of Paris, Linda Kay Bernard of Piscataway, Jim Abernathy (Vicky) of Trinity, Rick Abernathy (Caryn) of Paris, Mike Abernathy (Janet) of Paris and Christina Starr of Paris; and his friend Janet Joseph. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
