He was predeceased by: his wife Jayne; his great grandchild Daymian Newell; and his pet King. He is survived by: his children, Daniel Lyle (Sabrina) and Pam 'Pammy' Yockey (Jerry); his grandchildren, Bailey Lyle, Brandi Newell (Kyle), Jamie Yockey, Heather Sallee (Shane), Tiffani Sterling (Jordan), Holly Butler (Kris) and Kaycee Yockey; his great grandchildren, Pierce 'Peanut Case, Katelyn Newell, Dakota Newell, Jayden Newell, Jameson Sallee, Kohen Sterling, Kellin Butler, Hayden Butler and Emorie Yockey; his sister Linda Brownfield; and his nieces, Erin and Mary Burnell.

Memorial donations may be given in Gene's name to Wounded Warriors.
