He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgebert "Buzz" Essex and Ruby Essex (Carter); his former wife Elizabeth Craig; his wife Diane Redfearn; and his sisters, Lois Moore and Mary Fouts.
He is survived by: his sons, Benjamin Essex (Tanya) of Pueblo West, CO and Theodore Essex (Liz) of West Frankfort; his stepdaughters, Melanie Tarver of Panama and Erica LeMaster (Derek) of Edwardsville; his grandchildren, Macenzie Knox, Maressa Tarver, Maryn Tarver, Ava Essex and Kolby LeMaster; and his brother Duane Essex of Benton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
