He was predeceased by: his parents, George R. Barnett and Celia O. Barnett (Coffey); and his son Jeffery. He is survived by: his son David (Janel); his wife Carolyn; and his grandson Aidan.

Memorials in Walter's honor may be made to the Pana Community Hospital Foundation or the Pana American Legion and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
